Twitter 101 – an intro guide for noobs
Over the past month a strange thing has been happening on twitter – my new followers are actually people I already know! With all the media attention and rumours of google in late stages of buying them, my non-geek early adopter friends are now jumping on board and getting twitter accounts.
I used to say that facebook was for connecting the people you already know, and twitter is for connecting those you’d like to get to know better. I’m not sure that statement really covers it anymore.
The first thing newbies (noobs) say to me once they jump on twitter is… now what? Unlike facebook, there is no easy way to start connecting with people and no easy way of getting people to follow you back. It’s like showing up to a dinner party too early.
Below is an internal presentation I put together to help my new colleagues at BSTREET Communcations get a better and more common view of twitter and more specifically how this applies to brands and marketers looking to extend their message or engage their target market in conversation using twitter.
I updated the original it with a few more notes to give you some additional context to the images / slides used. Knowing there may still be some questions, feel free to post them here as a comment and I’ll address them the best I can. Note that the second like links to a video on youtube.
