I searched my name and the most relevant results like my blog or my linkedin profile were nowhere to be seen, instead it threw up not-so-relevant results like comments I had posted somewhere and a bookmarking site I used for a week and posting to quit 6 months ago.

Google become a phenomenon because it gave relevant results. I don't understand why these ex-googlers are missing this simple point by miles?

I didn't particularly like Cuil as I couldn't find what I wanted to find... not so good for a search engine! I like their design though. I will also check out Taptu.

I am not sure whether you speak French but I wrote a review today from a linguist's point of view... check it out if you have a spare minute

a wise man once told me (it was you) google is a marketing company that uses a search engine as its tool. I have to agree, i love the google model, and have blogged about ad words. Having spent some time using a friends GPS system last week, i think a mash up of Taptu and Google is the future... maybe an air miles type system, every time you post a comment on a local store you get a point to be used as currency (somewhere?). Social driven ad space, instead of purchased like google is doing now.
