Mobile gaming + advertising = a great opportunity for marketers

Greystripe - free mobile gaming supported by advertisingLast week at CTIA Wireless I had a chance to sit down with Michael Chang, the CEO of Greystripe to talk about mobile gaming and more specifically about his mobile advertising platform.

Greystripe currently has over 800 java based mobile games which are distributed through their own site (gamejump.com) and about 100 other sites and partners.

What makes them unique is the fact that any person with a java-enabled mobile device can download their games for free as Greystripe’s gaming network is ad-supported.

Users downloading games must view 2 pre-game ads and two post-game ads in order to access their games.

Mobile Ads have not been a barrier to engagement

Michael noted that in the 18 months since launch, they have had over 40 million downloads with the average user having downloaded 3 games each so far.

Marketers looking to reach the elusive male youth demographic should consider this channel as Greystripe’s audience is 65% male between the ages of 18-34.

What’s next?

Rich media ads are coming soon and a high score social function that comes with an API for cross-site integration. I think it would be cool to have mobile gaming high scores published as a facebook application!

Check out the video below for a live demo and further insight from Michael on his platform and product.

Interesting post - I am currently working on a couple of projects for Sony Ericsson in relation to gaming. Poeple play with their games a few times and then get bored and tend not to play after a few weeks…

Do you think giving away free games tend to keep people interested?

In your opinion, what’s the future of mobile gaming? :)
