I appreciate you for the coverage of NeoMedia and their optically initiated
mobile code reading technology. NeoMedia is the global leader in
camera-initiated transactions for mobile devices, and they have a lot of
very exciting things happening with the company.

Great question - something that hasn't been challenged & dealt with yet. I would look at the terms of use on the generator site to ensure you have rights to commercially use the code.

The advantage of commercial based code generators is that you tend to have more sizing options (like if you need to create a large one for an outdoor sign) and they have simple & aggregated reporting on all your codes.

We still use free services as we can generate all the reporting we are looking for with unique URL strings and google analytics, but not everybody has the time or inclination to do it manually.

Thanks for the great post!

I was wondering, are there any legal implications of using QR codes generated by free generators like http://qrcode.kaywa.com/, i.e. do I 'own' the code and able to use it on a marketing campaign without their consent? Or would I need to consider a commercially available generator. If latter is true, can you cite some sites that provide this service?

Thanks again...

Thank you for the coverage of NeoMedia and their optically initiated mobile code reading technology. NeoMedia is the global leader in camera-initiated transactions for mobile devices, and they have a lot of very exciting things happening with the company.

NeoMedia and Gavitec are both active members of the Mobile Codes Consortium with technology leader HP, marketing powerhouse and advertising agency Publicis Groupe, cell phone manufacturer Nokia, QUALCOMM, along with wireless carriers O2, Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile), and KPN.

http://www.mobilecodes.org/

Gavitec AG - Mobile Digit, the leading provider of mobile technologies and marketing solutions and a NeoMedia wholly owned subsidiary has made tremendous strides in Europe with mobile ticketing and mobile coupon implementations. Gavitec is a strategic partner of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and they have partnered with Spanair to launch a new mobile boarding pass service. The state of the art technology was tested at two Spanish airports - Madrid and Bilbao - and has been extended to Barcelona due to it's overwhelming success.

NeoMedia is also proud to announce the NeoReader as a universal code reader. Based off the award winning Lavasphere technology developed in Germany by Gavitec, the NeoReader features NeoMedia's patented resolution technology combined with Gavitec's ultra-small footprint and platform independent algorithms. It is able to read and decipher all common non-proprietary 2D codes (Data Matrix, QR, Aztec, Maxi) as well as URL embedded 2D codes and all 1D UPC/EAN/Code 128 open source codes. The NeoReader supports direct and indirect code linking, which guarantees maximum interoperability with already existing platforms like 2D Data Matrix Semacodes, and Japanese QR links. This allows the user to click on a variety of codes with a single application installed on their mobile device. The NeoReader ushers in and inaugurates a brand new era of innovative mobile enterprise and optical code reading solutions for the wireless industry.

Thank you again for supporting NeoMedia and Gavitec. Looking forward to a great showing at CTIA next month.

Best regards
